Otto Wagner

Otto Koloman Wagner, 13/07/1841 - 11/04/1918.

Wagner was an Austrian Architect and Urban Planner most well known for his impact on the appearance of Vienna to which he contributed many Landmarks such as the Nussdorf weir and lock (Fig 1) and Viennese Weiner Stadbahn(Fig 2.) Wagnr was born in Penzing, Vienna and studied in both Berlin and Vienna. He started designing his first buildings in the historicist cycle and in the mid to late 1880s he became a proponent of Architecture realism like many others such as Constantin Lupus)
In 1894 he became a professor of Architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. He is also very well know for designing many of the Jugendstil buildings. In 1890 Wagner re-designed a new city plan for Vienna however onnly his rail network was built.
Wagner was also one of the founders of the Vienna Secession alongside Gustav Klimt, Joseph Maria Olbrich, Josef hoffmann and Koloman Moser founding it in 1897.
