Soon after Samuel Bing an art director commissioned him to design four rooms for his Paris Gallery "L'art nouveau'. Van De Velds furniture designs consist of powerful curves and became one of the most important contributes or factors of his work. He then founded the self-titled furniture production company "Henry Van De Velde". the first branch opened in Berlin in 1899 but was later sold in 1900 to Wilheim Hirschworld.
