From Pre-Raphaelites to Japan within the work and inspiration of William Morris

The Cray one of William Morris is a great masterpiece, a resplendent  floral repeat, featuring large scale lush blooms reminiscent of peonies on an intricate background of intertwined foliage and stems. This beautiful masterpiece incorporates the most beautiful palette of pinks, corals and greens aith detail in black and yellow. It is a subtle masterpiece and such "imperfections" as were made by hand gives more and more richness that takes it to the position if being one of the greatest work of William Morris.

For this work Morris used 34 separate print block to create it. Now I come to say that I see with a total understanding and acceptance of hand block printed as a method. Yet this very unique and handmade characteristic brings a further appreciation of the time and workmanship within an item and the times spend and his creations.

On the other hand by looking at this creation I can explore it within a japanese influence, by looking at the colours, the expression and I can see how texture takes live on a gheisa.
